I have a 68 barracuda and some suspension questions...Let me start by listing some relevant info...

-- 8 3/4" sure grip rear end
-- front disks 74 Dart, rear drums
-- stock 318
-- 727 trans

my suspension in the rear is sagging and i suspect i need new springs and shocks. i'd like to lift it for that muscle car look but am not sure how. i have a few questions since i am trying to plan for future mods so please bare with me...this car is all street use for reference.

i will be installing cop car wheels (15x7?) but would like to go bigger if possible...maybe a 10" wide in the rear. should i relocate the springs now?
any idea what size tire i can go with front and rear?

what is the difference between the heavy duty and regular springs? does one lift more, is one firmer?

for shocks i am probably going to go with kyb's since they seem to work fine and are pretty cheap. any other shocks i should consider? does anyone run air shocks?

in the front i have the stock set up without the sway bar...the guy who did the work before me coultn't figure out how to get it back on. Anyone have any idea what I need to do to get the sway bar back on?

I wish I could offer some help, but I know no more than you. I figure a bump couldn't hurt though. Good luck.

i checked out manacini along with a few other guys...i'm gonna call the local mopar performance shop tonight and see what they suggest...another problem i have is how do you select the weight? i guess i could go down to the local track and figure out how to do that.

anyone know the "guesstimated" weight for a stock 68 fastback with a small block...i'll add the 200 lbs for the driver!

Those are the springs I'm using in my Duster. Here's another thread with some pics:

looks pretty high for street use if i'm gonna run 15" wheels...not sure I could fill that wheel well...how high is that rear?

i'm a dork, just looked closer at the first pics. it doesn;t appear you had to modify the suspension at all...car isn't tubbed (sp?) and the springs look in the factory location...is that true? what size wheel/tire you running?

Yep, that's right. The tires are 29.5 x 9 on a 15" rim. I'm not sure of the backspacing on the rim, but it's pretty close to the spring on the inside.

When choosing SS Springs you need to get the correct weight rated spring for your car. I have made the mistake in getting the incorrect spring for my car. It didnt work at all.

Yes, they're out there. I got mine from YearOne (actually they put me throught to their supplier). That was a number of years ago. Since, I delt with another company that I liked even better. Point is, they're out there. Get a copy of Mopar Muscle or Mopar Action and check the ads.

does anyone out there sell a leaf spring that leaves the car at, or near stock height?

If you want to run 15x10 wheels at some point you might as well relocate the springs while you're in there. As far as the heavy duty vs regular springs, i personally, would go for super stock springs. Those will lift the back end of the car, how much 'rake' you want is up to you...to a certain point. MagnumHP.com offers a abody front spring hanger that lets you choose between two front hanger positions giving it a different ride height. Some people love the back end up, some people dont, so thats just up to your personal preference. Superstock springs give a firm, but not rock hard ride.

As far as shocks, I'm pretty happy with my summit adjustable drag shocks. Prett dang cheap, i think they are just re-packaged competition engineering shocks, but who cares, they seem to work good lol.

I've ran air shocks before, but just as a temporary solution because my original springs were sagging and rubbing the tires. I've since done the 'permanent fix' being s/s springs and summit shocks.

Sorry, dont think i can be much help on the sway bar, my duster doesnt have one so i have nothing to reference to on a abody.

hope it helps,
-Mike :toothy7:

Here are the best comparison pictures i have from the spring swap.

after, about a 1 1/2" higher.

launch doesnt look too bad either, for a 318 pullin it. this is with the summit shocks on firm, s/s springs and stock snubber.

I Have seen where several members have purchased springs from JC Whitney for half of the cost of other suppliers, try 120.00 for both with free shipping. They are pleased with both quality and fit. Just for your information!!!!!

Man that yellow cuda looks goood i really like it my brother in law has a 70 #'s matching 440 cuda but its plum crazy purple

If you decide to go with the SS springs call Troy at West Oaks Dodge there in California. I've had good luck dealing with him and he usually has some good information to offer.

i would call ken hensley at hensley performance in knoxville he is a really nice guy i do alot of dealing with him
