Hello how are y'all doing, I have a question about removing the old starter. Im replacing the starter I have it all disconnected an unhooked but since it's big an bulky there no room for it to squeeze out, Could I remove this big nut an swing the bar over ? If I can then I could get it out.Any advice would help thank you

You will need a puller to get the pitman arm off and even then you may have to remove some other steering linkage.

It may be easier to loosen the motor mounts and raise the engine.

What ways have you or seen it done ? Tried looking up videos but no luck

I can not recall ever having to remove the pitman arm.
Turn the steering wheel.

Removal can be a two step process.
First forwar off the stud. Then tilt to angle it so it can come through the opening. May be you will see the gear end points down to slip it out.

You cant take a vid - you need two hands on the starter LOL
With a v-8 you have to take it out from under.
Turn the steering linkage so it clears.
Spend some time laying on your back and you will find a path for maneuvering it out.
It may take moving the steering a bit until you find one.

Yea you right lol. I was hoping someone had a camera attached to they head,Ok cool thank y'all for the advice, will be a lot easier then what I was about to make it lol

Reason for replacing starter is I put a magnum motor in it an used the old 74 starter that came with the 318 an just recently it started making noises( pretty sure starter was grinding )on start up an a part of the starter ( don't know names ) was up against the flex plate

All I can say is good luck!! I used to have to pull my headers when I'd change it on my 69 Charger. Of course, it had header bolts so I got a nice antifreeze bath to go with the job every time. (I was a slow learner!) By all means, I highly recommend using a mini starter. They are amazingly easier to install/remove and they spin these engines way better than the old moose starters. Now you won't get the arm and shoulder workout like the old starter but....

Jack the motor up on the driver side and turn the wheel as others have mentioned. You'll find a way to get it out doing that.

Im examining the starter an the gear spins freely both ways ,not post to do that ?

I let y'all know how it goes got the car jacked up
Get the terminal conversion pieces if you dont already have them.

If you have the trans cover now would be a good time to put it on.

It will be very difficult if not impossible. If this isnt your daily drive I would wait.

Here is one seller, their my be more or a member on this site might be able to hook you up.

I'm the only one that disconnected the battery, wired up the starter, and then swung it into place? I never had that conversion thing.

My little wire connector is to small for the small bolt on the starter

Also might need a bushing for the top bolt if you dont have the correct shoulder bolt. Ive snapped 2 starters due to it having slop in top bolt no matter how tight you think you have it.

I beleive you!
I think it depends on the length of the cable wire and how it was routed for a particular engine and body.
