Staying busy while isolated

-
A few more today. Every time I get a break from the work stuff, I keep myself occupied doing these. The vintage Disney theater poster was a surprise find and I spent hours over the past few days restoring that one.

I did a few new magazine covers today and then tried my hand at restoring old comic book covers. One of the Superman ones seems particularly relevant these days...

I have been doing a bunch of these over the past few days.

Did a few more WWII Superman covers yesterday...

Very cool. I like to see how the 'futuristic' ideas turned out.
That’s part of what fascinates me about these. In many cases, they were somewhat right but couldn’t know the other technical innovations that would make them possible. In other cases, they were completely off the mark.

It’s quite interesting to me to see what they were thinking the future might be 60-90 years ago.

Still working on tesla let alone flying cars. All we really need is a good power source.

Was thinking of growing cannabis just for the horticultural experience. I think the buds are pretty and smell good. And I have some friends that would appreciate them in other ways.

But for now, I'm building a rectangular wooden planter and starting a succulent/cactus garden. Plants and soil are on order and the box is nearing completion.

So back in the day I used to do clock repair. My daughter in law inherited a fine old German clock that didn't run so I thought I would take a look.

This is a westminster model which chimes every 15 minutes and indicated the hour with a chime also.

The dark around the hole is dried oil. some corrosion and basically varnish like you find in an old carb.

Using a sharpened toothpick I cleaned out the residue and ran a little solvent through the bearings.

Used a little synthetic watch oil and relubricated all the wear points. Now its ready for reinstall and final adjustments. About 3 hours total undoes about 30 years of neglect.

Wow all the campers today are made out of plywood and many are delivered defective. Can't imagine how a chopper shaking them would work out. Kinda like the pontoons tho!

I would like to see before and after pics. I have no idea what your doing to these, so the comparison shots would be nice.

Thanks Dave! That helps me understand more of what your doing with them. I actually like seeing the difference. Great job!!!

Finished a few more today. I only have about a dozen left in my files waiting to be done. Guess I will have to go on an image hunt again soon.

A well respected ex Manager and mentor of mine in the Printing industry works on clocks as a hobby. He says it creates an outlet for stress relief which amazes because everything is so detailed but anyhoo if you can fix that stuff you got skills.....
