I have a 74 Duster I want to put a manual steering box in.
I have found a couple of B and E body boxes close to me and I think they will bolt up but are the splines the same?

I assume you are converting from power steering to manual. Starting in 1973 A body cars used a large sector power steering box. A B and E manual boxes all have the small sector. You need a manual box out of a C body or possibly a B Van up thru 88. I know that a manual out of a C body will work in an A body but I'm guessing about the van box, never having actually done that. You will also need a power to manual adapter as the power and manual steering columns are different lengths. Firm Feel, Steer and Gear, Mancini racing (I think) have the adapter. I think some Chrysler dealers may also have them but I don't have a part number.

Thanks Pyp. Yes I want to convert from power to manual.

The last time I did it I used the adaptor from Mancini, but I got the box from another "A" body.

This time though I can't find a "A" manual box.

Thanks for the info.

You can still get a pitman arm for a 74 A-body for either sector size.

If you get a manual box with a small sector, get Moog K7075. It is listed for 74 Duster with M/S.

Moog K7076 is large sector and is listed for 74 Duster with P/S.

Give this page a readthru as well, very infomative:

I believe the manual boxes are the same except for ratio. Many years ago I had a box in one of my 69 runners go bad, and I got a box from (I believe it was) a64 A body and installed it without issue. That box is still in that car (which is on the far side of my shop)

Thanks guys. Very good info. It looks like it wil work.

Rock auto has new pittman arms for $42 also.8)
