72 Demon-Manual Steering-4spd

Disassembled the steering column components and have a question.
My service manual shows an upper bearing snap ring that has to be removed...however, I didn't see a snap ring where I thought there should be one.
There are two "grooves" in this area that look like they should accept snap rings.. A "front" and a "back"... the back appears to have one, or part of one. Is this the only snap ring in the set-up and I was just misinterpreting the service manual wrong, or should there be two..?

It’s on the steering shaft. Did you have slop and play in the column prior to all this?
if it wasn’t on the shaft somebody was already in there once and didn’t put it back on.
