Hi Folks

I am restoring the steering column on a '71 Demon. I have taken 2 columns apart and found a washer under the steering shaft nut on one, and one shaft without. Can anyone advise if there should be a washer there? Also, does anyone know the torque value for said nut?

Thanks

I'd use a washer if it's the typical castleated nut. If it's the locknut, it isn't necessary, but, I'd probably use it anyway just to keep from scarring up the steering wheel hub.
