I need to replace the turn signal cam on my 64 Valiant. One of the 3 screws that holds ring on is stripped, I'm thinking of grinding it down so I can remove the ring then get a vice grip on it and back it out. Is this a bad idea, I need to get horn ring off somehow.

If it's crossthreaded or spins in the hole, I would drill it to remove the head and then try to extract the stub by grabbing it with vice grips and pulling while you twist it. If it's the phillips area that is stripped, try tapping the end with a hammer and punch, then jambing a straight blade screwdriver the correct size into the stripped hole and see if it will break loose. If not, a small center punch or chisel can be used on the outer edge to back the screw loose.

Thanks guys, I just ground it down then used vice grips. Got it all done and replaced the turn signal cam, hoping this will take care of my intermittent left brake light. thanks again
