I have been reading on here for awhile now and it seems if you try and put a v8 in a /6 car the exhaust is usually a pain to route. I have a 63 Dart and I realize they did not have a v8 option although the 64 on up did. If I were to try and put in a v8 and make the needed firewall changes for the distributor, wouldn't a stock type exhaust work just fine? I hear problems on the driver side with the steering column and other clearance problems. I can understand when you use headers they might not fit right in but if I were to put the stock exhaust setup in, would I still have the clearance problems I keep reading about? Did the 318s in the stock 64's use a y pipe or a dual exhaust? If I were to do a swap, I would want to run a dual exhaust but if using a y pipe really simplified things, I could live with that as I am not looking to build a super fast car, just one that gets around a little quicker.

64-66 273 manifolds will fit fine, they all used a y-pipe, even the Commando 4-barrel engines. No 318 was ever original in an early-A. You may need to make some mods to the trans cross member for duals, pretty easy, if you don't, the pipe will just hang down a little, no biggie for a cruiser.

I believe the only fundamental differences between the 63 and 64-66 was the firewall and the radiator support. Exhaust pain is the same from 63-66.

The firewall may need to be clearanced for the distributor (add dent with hammer).

The radiator support was only designed for the 19" /6 radiator. To fit a 22" V8 radiator you will have to reconfigure the opening slightly (make hole bigger with drill and saw).
