My 5.9 jeep get 12.5 mpg mainly city driving.

My Durango is a 2wd and got between 17 - 18 mpg on a 40 mile round trip commute to work at 60 mph. My 3/4 ton Ram 2wd gets the exact same.

I know this is an old post,but i have a 2000 5.9 4x4 Durango and it uses all the fuel you give it,thats all i got to say on that subject..Love the car overall its realy sweet in most aspects except i realy need to get a new AC for it,PO took the compressor of it.

2000 Dakota R/T extended cab 5.9 3.92 gear.

I held the record for best MPG on DakotaRT.com at 14.2 IIRC back about 2003-4.

Now it's not a daily driver and has more idling and heavy short trip time.
(and 165,000 miles)

I'm at 13.5 average now, which is what most were getting back in 03.

I'd imagine a heavier Durango 2WD would be slightly worse with the 3.92 gear and a 4x4 noticeably worse.

3.55 gears would probably compensate or get close.
 
Has anyone ran their stock 5.9 magnum efi at the drag strip?

If everything goes well I'll be able to let you know next summer.

Putting a stock 5.9 into a 70 Dart. Will have the kegger intake and factory EFI. 904 auto with 3.23 sure grip.

Hopefully I can get it done over the winter.
 
My 67 Dart 3270 lbs, 300hp 5.9 Magnum crate, summit cheapo headers, 904/3.91 650dp ran 12.5-12.7 The OEM stock cam was done at 5500 rpm. Upgraded to home ported heads, chinese air gap, lunati [email protected] .495 lift hyd roller 11.86-12.0 A well tuned EFI should run the same.

6k. I eventually had #8 exhaust valve break off and blew this motor. Hyper piston shattered and this motor is in the scrap pile. Back to running a 340 with shaft rockers for me.
 
Mopar action did an article 6-7 years ago with a 62 savoy. Stock 5.9 with tti headers and exhaust. Not sure of the gear. It was tuned by a Chrysler engineer. Ran low 13’s I believe. I’m gonna try to find the article

i haven't done the EFI magnum, but I'd expect 13's with gears in the 2.xx's
With 3.91's and headers, I'd say 12's

My experience with a stock 300hp Magnum says that this is pretty optimistic. Even basic 1/4 mile calculators would put a 3200lb car at 13.5/105mph trap speed. That Savoy must be a few hundred lbs more making "low 13s" on 300hp impossible unless it started from a 10mph roll.

105 mph should be much faster than 13.5. I'd expect a stock magnum would outrun my stock LA 360 and it went 13.9 with 2.45 gears/no headers.

Yeah, you could run a quicker time while trapping at 105mph but both the ET and the trap speed are pretty reliably calculated based on power, weight, typical drivetrain losses, good launch, decent atmospheric conditions, etc. Of course, it's a ballpark figure only.

One fun thing to do is to check published performance numbers on production cars. Punch in their curb weight, advertised (crank) horsepower and you'll almost always be within couple tenths and a couple mph. It's depressingly accurate. :D

Obviously, with customized hotrods, there are a lot more variables As mentioned above, the driver, track altitude, atmospheric conditions, track condition/prep and how good the owner is at tuning are all significant.

In any case, 13.9 is a very respectable time for a stock 360. What's the setup for your car running this 360? Do you have a limited slip?

No posi ( :poke: poke a few :D). added 4bbl, used a less lift/duration cam than a factory 360 4bbl. that's it. Car weighs 3240 if I remember correctly

A 3240lb car running a 13.9 ET would have to make about 275 crank horsepower which is believable...that final drive ratio was probably not helpful and with the lack of posi, this must mean that you can really drive. What was your trap speed?

you don't think the 2.45 gears were helpful??? LOL. 97-98 mph

Gotta ask that j par guy, it's all in the tweak'n :D :D
 
ext cab and 3.92's. yes on the 93 octane and the drag radials are 26" tall.
 
Well got to try my swap out a the track. 69 Dart ,1995 5.9 obd1 from a ram. Completely stock other than 340 manifolds and dual exhaust,833 4spd, 3.23 gears, skinny 14 radials. Best I could do was 15.68 et @93mph. Thought it would do better, car feels faster than that
