Got the results from the state fair. My son built the model the secret Santa on here got me of the 78 dodge truck. He won Reserve Grand Champion overall at the county level and go to enter it at state . He got division Merit for his age group at state fair against 92 others. The equivalent of a divisional champion at the state fair.

I don't have a benchmark to assess.... but sounds like he did well??

Almost done the painting around the windows, the step up and down the 3 step ladder is a pain in the butt. Then trim. Put my parts washer on a furniture dolly, i think it will stay there. I can roll it around now, and put it out of my way.
Been raining off and on all day, i wish it would dry up.

I just got done installing some “in wall” push pull fans in the gun shop. They suck treated air in and thru the shop from the mini split in the lounge. Woo Hoo AC and heat in the gun shop. I am very excited! Kinda like Bellicheck was when his girlfriend finally got her license!
Too soon?

Well, thats over with. Painted, recycled trim from old windows. Good enuf.

Old windows were 5x5 and leaky AF. Now to arrange the gear.

Very. For his first ever year in 4H.

He had 3 Reserve Grand projects. Those 3 all made it to state fair. His model did the best. At state fair the scoring looks like this

Grand Champion
Reserve Grand Champion
Merit aka divisional Champion(they pick 2 from each age division , there’s 3 age divisions.) Both the Grand and Reserve grand are then chosen from the Merit group so basically he placed top 6 overall in the state.

Then it’s

Blue Ribbon aka first place
Red ribbon - met project rules but poor execution
White Ribbon: poor execution AND didn’t meet project rules.

Well Congratulations.

Wish our actual vehicles went that quickly
He spent about a month building it.

That said , I’ve learned that sharing shop space exposes a lot of time issues. For me just to go work on one of my projects, requires a 45 minute round trip. Plus I have to pull everything out and put it back up each time, that usually takes another hour.

I’m hoping when my own shop is finished later this fall that progress will become much more sustainable and efficient

These be the details I’m talking about. I used to judge 4H and no one ever painted the under side different colors like this. Or the grille. They would have left it body color

I have become comfortably numb, peace out my Moparian Brethren!
Speaking of which, Check out this interview. It's 2 hours long and I am only 20 min. into it but it's quite fascinating. David is quite a guy and he sounds like he is such a wonderful artist by accident. "I have no idea why that happens"
