Ah, Ted (drinking buddy) stopped down to pick up a coupler bottles I bought for him. Of course we had to do some tasting. I didn't take any photos of all the bottles but I can list them off I think. The photos are from my file. We started with Green River Full proof., A Remus Barrel Pick bourbon, 2 different Driftless Glen's, one a Bourbon and one a Rye. Both were finished in wine barrels. We then had a sip of a James E Pepper and finished with a sip of William Larue Weller. All were good. Some were better and a couple were knocking on that "really damn good" rating. Not exceptional but close. There was one Driftless that was close to exceptional followed closely by the Remus.

I went on a run to Des Moines yesterday. (4 hour round trip but worth it) I picked up 3 single barrels. All 3 were picks and very delicious. Buddy Ted couldn't make the trip so I did some parking lot tasting and brought back a couple for him too. This was at his house after I got home. Of course we had to taste them! All. LMAO

One of the bottles I scored from Bryan at the Grimes Fairway was Old Scout Rye from Smooth Ambler Spirits. It's a single barrel picked by the State. It is an 8 year, 116.8 proof, MGP Rye. (I am guessing 51/45/4 mashbill by the taste) How many Ooooo's in smooth? It drinks like a 100 proofer. It's sweet, just a little rye and honey oak on the nose. All those flavors carry over to the palate with a medium creamy vanilla mouth feel and quite a long lingering finish. I went out to the truck and opened the bottle to taste it. Of course I went back in to grab another for my buddy Ted. I knew he'd like it as well. Oh, The best part, it was only 35 bucks. One of the best low dollar sips I have ever bought. It looks like only 116 were available and they are almost gone from the warehouse. Thanks Bryan Castellano

Off to CVMM (Cedar Valley Malt Manifesto) tonight. It's our Whiskey tasting group. We meet once a month and sample a few bottles that the club buys with the dews we pay. Tonight is American Single Malt night. We have a special Cedar Ridge Quintessential release
(the distillery is 60 miles south of here) and 2 bottles from Westland Distillery in Seattle. I am bringing an Ironton from Colorado and a Corsair from Nashville to share. I'll post some photos later.
