Hey guys curious if any of you know of any combos I could use for my 1970 dart. Stuff like engine setups, tranny, gears, tires, exhaust, turbo or not. Goals are around 12 seconds or better in the quarter and get 14 mpg or better. Thanks

For what you want to do, it's as simple as grabbing one of the old MP or DC catalogs and following it. Doubt you are going to run in the 12's and get 14 mpg, but 10 or so isn't out of the question. I've been 12.80's on a 3.23 but it was miserable. The cam really needed 3.90's. I swapped in 4.56's and got it down to 12.40's but it was out of cam at 1000 feet.

I fixed that with a 280 solid lifter deal, which by Chrysler cam specs is about a 300 cam. Should run to 1320 now.

probably need about 370 rwh , a 3.91 gear and overdrive transmission with a 27 inch tall rear tire. Will take some time to tune ignition and carb to get drivability and mileage where you want it

12's are easy..my last combo.
'78 360 block 30 over
stock 3.58 crank
Lunati "voodoo".533/.552 cam
Edelbrock heads slight port work
Comp. roller rockers
Air gap intake Quickfuel 850 carb
904 trans.full manual v.b.
3800 stall converter.
4.30 gears
3' exhaust
275 60 15 drag radials..in a '70 duster last time our 11.78@112...

If you want gas mileage and to run 12's a mild decent sized engine 360 plus and 100 hp shot of nos. you'll get away with less gear stall and cam and if you do a lot of highway driving go overdrive

The cars weight is the first issue!
Otherwise....
Stroked340's combo is excellent. For a slightly less aggressive combo, a slight change in gears, cam, converter and carb size.
4.10's, 750, a step smaller cam & converter.
Mid 12's (or better) all day long, slightly better mileage and slightly more Hwy. friendly.
LOL

Oh! Mileage should s mostly in the tune and running the engine at a reasonable RPM.
ET is in the cars weight & chassis. How well you hook up and I hope not a lot of weight.

A Magnum 5.9L, with a better camshaft, an Air Gap, a decent 670-750cfm carb, and headers will make 350hp easy. That was basically the MP 380hp Crate 360 for years - back when they were only $4K and didn't blow up. Pair it with a 2500 10" convertor and a performance 904, and a 3.23 or 3.55 gear. If you have nothing for it, the entire driveline will run around $7K. With solid tuning and tires it will run into the 12s at a little over 100.
There are 422" strokers making 470hp and getting 17+mpg. There are snotty 318s running low 13s and getting 20+. It's about a well matched and tuned combo. If one can't get past 15mpg with a 318 or 360 with bolt ons one needs to look into the combo and tuning. You need about 350hp in a street A body to run what you want. You need to have the tuning spot on and solid machining to keep the economy at that level.
