I recently bought a mild custom 1966 barracuda S 4-speed with (among other mods) a 340 in it, after my stock 65 S was totaled. It came with a dysfunctional Wilwood hydraulic clutch (wouldn't disengage because slave travel was not far enough) that was fixed, after my mechanic was stumped, by putting a bigger bore master on it.
The clutch itself is a Hayes with scatter shield, and the tranny is recently rebuilt. It takes a very strong pedal (and calves) to shift-- not really a street clutch, but I don't have problems until I put it into reverse.
Now the car is sticking in reverse, nearly every time I go into reverse, and I usually can't get it out of reverse. The stick feels like it is in neutral, but when I let out the clutch the car backs up. It will feel as though it is going into other gears (I almost never can get it to hook back into reverse), but when the clutch goes out it will just lose power and the engine will stall.
The once problematic clutch seems to be working as clutching will disengage the tranny. But now the car is parked in reverse with no way out (?). Once or twice, some more experienced drivers have been able to get it back into real reverse, rock it, and get it out, but I can't. I suspect the problem is with the shifter/linkage, but really don't know.
Any ideas anyone?
