Missed the launch the other day, forgot the launch this evening. Taken from Desert Palm Cali. It was perfect weather especially here after monsoons the last few days.

Shouldn't a bunch of people build houses around there, and get the place closed down??
That issue is already in the works. NASA and the USAF might have made a dozen launches per year between satellites and missile tests. SpaceX and friends are doing 4 or 5 per month. I hate to say though, the Shuttle launches from that launch complex I worked on for 3 years would have really pissed 'em off  . Elon just leased that complex here in the recent past. I think it got used once for some other space vehicle previous.

I can’t imagine them launching a spaceshuttle type vehicle. The noise would be tremendous. Several years ago my wife and I were at Vandenburg. Drove around the place checking things out. I was surprised at the lack of security there. Drove all the way down to the launch gantrys. Even drove past the site where they train the missleers. All black building, double fenced with concertina wire and sentry dogs. Wasn’t even challenged. We were looking for the missle museum but couldn’t find it.

When it was Vandenberg AFB that was much different  The MPs would sit out on the state highway that passes the main gate with their radar guns and write tickets

The MPs do not have jurisdiction on state highways. Posse comitatus act.

We just missed it at work, but it was visible for quite some time afterwards.

My Brats see them once in a while from Chandler. When I was a kid we used to see the NASA launches from Barstow out in the mighty Mojave  . ":wtf: is that? Where is it coming from?" Had no idea that Vandenberg had launch sites back then

Funny, until a few years ago I had never noticed that Barstow and Santa Maria/home are almost exactly at the same latitude :realcrazy: .

It's crazy that we can see things that are in the California sky all the way from Southern AZ. Like you, I've been seeing the spirally rocket trails when they test in the morning for years.

We saw the Shuttle before it's first launch while it was on one of it's piggy back rides on that 747 it used to ride. Edwards AFB and all of it's labs were just 60 miles across the desert from us.
