I have a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda and I'm looking to get a new set of bumpers for. This car is going to be a driver and I think I'm going to go with aftermarket bumpers. Who has the best prices around? Any suggestions

Tri-City Plating in Tennessee!!
It really depends where you are, since shipping is a big part of it. I got a good price from the Bumper Shop in LA, but that's because I bought them at a show.

Vans auto has new repops for $269 each free shipping on evilbay. Need to look ay listings because they are offered with extra holes for bumperettes, and without extra holes. Same price. I will prob buy one at a time because of my budget.
This is cheapest place i found these so far. I have found 2 companies making these repop. Golden star, and AMD.

I have to question the quality of the chrome on reproductions. Majority of these cars are rarely driven and never rained on today, So we may never know how the repops compare to OEM statistically .
Those who bought the repop rally mirrors and put them out there against the wind and elements found that Chrysler put a lot more chrome on their originals. Repops blemished and pitted within 2 years.
Replating good cores is more expensive no doubt. We get what we pay for in most cases.

I put a set of repops on Pam's Jamaican Blu Baby and they have held up well so far. Seems like the chrome plating is decent...especially compared to my bumpers which are stock/replated. My replated bumpers scratch way easy compared to the repops. Fit and finish is really decent IMO.
Got them on ebay from AMD for $600 shipped.

Paint the backs with undercoating/POR and keep them polished with a coat of wax to preserve them longer.

Well, I've had Tri-City bumpers on my 66 and 67 for over 10 years and they still look brand new! I'm not the most fastidious polisher or cleaner of my cars and prefer to drive them as opposed to showing them, so my real world call is that Tri-City does a nice job on their bumpers and are worth the money! Can't compare to OE because the OE ones are over 40 years old, and I've seen tons of peppered, scarred, and just plain rusty bumpers over the years! I'd rather have Tri-City because they put out a good product, have always treated me right and work with me on core returns!! Back when the hobby was hot hot hot, I would save 20 bumpers and turn them in to Chuck for 2 new bumpers for my cars! Can't get better than that! Geof

I called tri city today...EXCELLENT prices. I think I am going to go that route. strokked340 how much was shipping from mass, I am just north of boston.

my bumpers are rust-free however one has a dent about the size of a golf ball well they pull out before chroming

Yes,they should make them nice and straight before rechroming...
Not sure on shipping,but i paid $255.00 each for them..

They told me 320.00 each. Im just worried about shipping from mass. I put it in to the UPS shipping calculator. It said 47.00 for a 50lb package....I dont know if this is correct, but it seems fair. I would guess 100.00 both ways.

I guess they went up a little in price i bought mine 5 years ago..
Its not that they're heavy its the fact they're long is why it cost..

I say keep the re-chromers in business. They are getting more rare by the day. Back in the day, it seemed like most people had a good re-chromer within easy driving distance. My how things have changed.
Tri-Cities sounds like the place to go.

The AMD new stamped bumpers are perfect repo's. Around here at least I cant re-chrome old ones for the price of new repo's
I ordered a set for a buddy's 69 Barracuda and we compared them to my originals...I couldn't see any diff. As a matter fact if I re-chromed my old ones they would have the hammer dents on the rear from straitening before chrome and visible after on the back of the bumper, the new ones don't have those issues of course. I will order new!
