How much work do you do to a survivor car before it’s not a survivor car I just picked up a 70 340 duster car that been in a barn for the last 30 yrs I plan on pulling the motor and trans and freshen them up new carpet and the drivers seat is split and having the seats redone then wash and buff the paint I’ll find out soon if it’s all numbers matching car

I did the headliner, carpet, and the drivers floor pan in my Roadrunner, plus going through all of the systems to make sure they were in order. It has a little rust, but I’m not touching the original paint, and actually don’t mind the rust at all, I’d rather have the original paint intact. It needs a new front seat cover as well, but the lead time from Legendary is keeping me from doing that. All I can say is do as little as you have to, but try to upgrade stuff that needs to be done, and replace parts that are too far gone with better, but appropriate survivor quality items.

Nice find by the way, you found one heck of a cool car!

Nice looking road runner I’m finishing up a 69 GTX right now

Seriously nice find. I would love to see more pics. I don't recall seeing any 340 cars with the spear strip molding on the side. Is it a bench seat car?

I don't see that being a survivor. Black painted engine bay, interior surely needs replaced?

Yes it’s a bucket seat car and yes the interior needs to be redone it’s been sitting for 30 yrs I’m hoping I can get the paint off the inner fenders with Pam

Great find!

Interesting era for 1970 Hamtramck built cars too...... Does your Mylar door sticker show May or June for final completion?

Have you searched all the normal areas for broadcast sheets yet?

No I’m going this weekend to get the car out of the barn and get it to my shop and look for the broadcast sheet and ck out the numbers on the motor and trans someone has put a set of headers on it and a torker intake so I will be tracking down the right exhaust manifolds and intake down

In my opinion, any car that hasn’t been crushed is a survivor. I prefer to see cars as the owner presents them whether they are complete restorations, partial restorations, modified, or works in progress.
Good find and purchase.

Congrats to you!! Cant wait to see more. Wonder what wheels came on it

I can’t wait to see it out in the light. One thing I really enjoyed was the cleaning process too, it was such a joy to watch my car come back to life. I’m sure you’re going to feel the same way. My car had been off the road since 1978, when according to the original owner, someone had cut the cables and stole his battery. He just pushed it in the garage and never drove it again.

Bonus points for a hitch on the rear!! Back when folks used their muscle cars to tow stuff!!

he was towing his buddies dragster to the track with it. He ran this car one time, to a 13 second time and won his class. Here a pic of his trophy, he just had to show that to me. It’s such an incredible feeling to be able to talk to him and have him share the history of the car

Very cool getting to know that much of the old history of the car you purchased. I wasn't as fortunate but have been able to track down the last 3 owners of my Duster back to 2000 where a guy got it from a used car lot in Denver. It did drive up the Alcan from Denver to Northern Alaska in February with street tires and Cragars!! I wish I could go back further, but at least it's some relevant history.

Nice find, haters are gonna hate.

I don’t know why anybody would hate that car, it’s got a ton of cool vibe going for it. It’s a 340 car, it’s a very popular color, and I’m dying to see it out of the barn. I’m sure a bath and some elbow grease is gonna bring that baby right up to a whole new level!

Me neither

I have a 64 Fury 2dr Ht ,30,000 mi. I’m the second owner. Lower body was painted at one time. Had to replace original tires. Have all original paper work, window sticker. I consider it a original/unrestored car rather than a survivor

Cool find. My opinion is retain as much of everything that is oem as possible and logical. You will know what to keep after a thorough cleaning. Us Mopar dudes do not like black chevy engine compartments unless a original black car! But, the "experts" will define survivor as have a certain % of oem paint also!
If something stinks of rat piss and you can not clean it, your nose will give the answer!

Very cool, it’s your car, enjoy it & call it what you want. If you spend all your time worrying about percentages, you won’t have much fun.
