Was hoping to start my car today, it’s sat for awhile. I’ve had some mechanical pumps go bad from sitting before, the diaphragm dries out or deteriorates. Is there a procedure for testing the pump without cranking the engine over? I have a mityvac and a vacuum gauge, was thinking I could apply vacuum with the mityvac and see if it holds? Wasn’t sure whether to hook it to the inlet or outlet of the pump? Thanks in advance

Biggest danger is leaking fuel into the crank case. And THAT can cause engine damage. Exploded valve covers or pan. If you are concerned, I'd replace it.

No way to test w/o engine running. Assume that it works and fire it up.
couldn't he just pull it off and bench test if?
put it in a vice, put a line into a jerrycan and a line going out and just work the arm

it won't give you accurate flow rates, but it will tell you if it works or not

I have done that before. The lever is very hard to work as the cam concentric has much more power than your arm. No human could work that arm fast enough to remotely tell if it is good or bad. I have done a lot of crap in my life and that is another one. But I don't want to discourage you. Please prove me wrong. I only ask that you video tape it and share it with all of us when you are done. Good luck.
