"That thing gotta 273?"

My little 273 Commando screams like a 340 and nobody can tell that little bastard otherwise! 65'

My friend had one a 273 4bbl,3 speed on the column and it was crazy fast .It may have had the d dart drive train .not sure

It's a 66 Valiant, not a 67. Scott Harvey's 66 Barracuda was a rally champion back in the day.

318's are bored out 273's......so were 289/302's. Which one will give you more power.

Depends, there's a ton of late 70's large cubic engines that would get smoked by a modern NA 4 cylinder.
There's built 340's that can smoke built 408's, it mainly comes down to heads, valve train, stall and gears, but yes displacement usually makes it easier to accomplish performance goals.

But there's also a ton of high hp ford 4.6l 289/302 and chevy ls 4.8l no reason a 273 can't be built up relatively as easy. For most people once you got to turn over 6000 rpm and a fewer 7000 rpm you've hit your engines power limit and need more displacement or power adders to reach your hp goals. That would be about 350-400 hp for a 273.

302's and 289's use the same pistons, different rods and cranks. A 289 would kill a 302 any day of the week. My brother had a 65 Mustang with a K code 289 and 3.90 gears.

Maybe 260/289 would have been a better example. Didnt want stroke to get involved them we'd be back to the 340/360 debate.

A screamin' little machine. 273's are fun little engines.

I love my little 273 4 barrel - 10:1 compression . Solid lifters - 235 HP -
