The 340 is finally being rebuilt

-
Also, took a good look @ the new Yokohama tires and here's the specs on them:
Front are 205/55ZR17s, "Advan Sport" model
Rear are 235/55ZR17s, also the Advan Sport model.

I'd like to; take it out on a "shake-down cruise", so to speak.
It's killing me waiting to get it back. I'm realistically looking at it being put back together by July 15th, hopefully.
We have all the parts at this point. Now it's a matter of bolting/connecting everything together.

The 340 has made its way back into the engine bay. The plan at this point is to fire it up prior to hooking up the full exhaust; we want to hear it run with just the open headers.

More progress on the engine compartment re-assembly. I really like the look of the Lokar linkage components next to the Edelbrock carb. That's also the new Champion radiator and fan shroud setup in there as well.

Roger that, Keni; good to know you're in the area.
If you're in need of parts, I may have some extras at the end of this build you can take a look at and let me know if you have a use for them.

Stopped by the restoration shop (http://www.rossrestorationsinc.com/) and took this video of the 340 started up w/o the exhaust system attached, i.e., The Open Header Effect.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPwuFlWcSt8"]‪Engine Startup July 22 2011‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]

Started to smoke a bit on the passenger side, which turned out to be some oil which had previously dripped on the header pipe.

"Alright...Mike, tell us what we're going to do here".

"We're going to start this thing" :eek:ccasion:

Sorry, but that was just funny !!!

Let Mike know he has the power brakes hooked up to the pvc port.
There's a hole in the back of the carb for the power brakes. :

Always look forward to this thread. Doing a great job on the car.

LOL, glad you enjoyed it; I sound like a amatuer Reality TV Host.
I'll mention that vacuum hose placement to Mike. He may not be the one who hooked that up, but it'll be entertaining to give him a a bad time about it.
Thanks for the compliment. It's been fun adding to this as work progresses.
Ran into a snag with the front end kit, though. PST sent me the wrong lower ball joints to go with the solid tie rod adjustment sleeves and via a phone call acknowledged the mistake and are shipping the correct ones to us by Monday of next week. I hope to get her back by the end of next week with this project completed (at least this phase of it).

Nice car, looks like your having fun with the build.

Just an FYI, your 72' engine (as do all 72-73 340's) have a special cast crank and is externally balanced, hence the counter weight on the damper. If you look on the counter weight, it will read "use with cast 340 crank only" or something like that. My 72 340 also came with 360 heads or "awj360" heads.

My wife gets the same looks about my car....

Took these yesterday of the finished front suspension work. The only thing not installed on the components were cotter pins, which were installed today.
There are some odds and ends to be finished, and hopefully today or tomorrow morning the Dart will be off to the front end alignment shop to make sure all is well with the front end.
My resto shop guy and Car Guru George Ross tells me he wants to have it sitting in my driveway Friday evening; I told him to stop toying with my emotions.

Got the call from the Resto Shop (http://www.rossrestorationsinc.com/) to come down and take the Dodge out for a test drive to see if the rear end issues (a whining sound going down the road) had been put to rest.
My Bride (of 26 years today, coincidentally) videotaped from the rear seat as Joe and I analyzed the Dart's performance and changes.
The hood was off and no air filter on top of the carb makes for a different sound, but all in all it ran great. The steering is like a new car, with all of the sloppiness gone. We have an exhaust leak or two to address as well.
The second video is long and not all that exciting, but it was great to FINALLY drive the Dart.

Thanks, guys. My Bride and I got married on my Birthday so it's also our 26th Wedding Anniversary. In hindsight, we probably shouldn't have done it that way, but I've never forgotten our wedding day.

I can't remember the last time my bride was in the back seat.... And this occasion doesn't count because you were in the front! Happy anniversary!
