Started tearing into the 65 hardtop getting ready to make way for the 360. Going to dig into the tranny when I drag the motor out and fix the leaks, pull the valve body and see if i can figure out why the kickdown is not working. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Im debating on just putting a full rebuild kit in it. It shifts good but could be better.

I understand there was no part throttle kickdown on early (pre 67?) TFs. Mine won't kickdown at any throttle opening, shifts early all the time. Time for a new valvebody. Hopefully they interchange to the 65 trans.
By the way, nice choice of car and color!

There's a kickdown it's just nothing like the post 67 cars which I feel are far superior and much less bulky. The kickdown on the 65s is bolted to the back of the drivers side head as opposed to a bracket on the manifold. I went to the junkyard and grabbed a setup of of an aspen and swapped them out. I am very happy with mine.

I don't think the tranny that's in there is the original. The motor is not the original one so I'm assuming that neither is the tranny. I'm going to go through it and put a manual valve body in it and definetly a bigger stall just not sure how hi I want to go. I'm diggin your blue dart also! I bought this dart not because I wanted 2 65's, I got a good deal on it and now I love it. I needed something to play with while I finish my convertible.
