Circa 1965-1970, I toured Virginia City, Nevada, as a youngster with family and friends. I went into a little tourist "newspaper press" where you could put someone else's name in the headlines on the front page. There were many headline suggestions, I chose "(name) Gassed Again On Orange Juice". I thought that was hilarious, believing that "gassed" referred to a condition of flatulence. My Dad (who was paying for this "souvenir"), suggested I choose something else, but I insisted. Worse yet, I had the printer put my mother's name on the headline, when it was common knowledge that she had somewhat of a drinking problem. Mom was quite upset with me when I proudly showed her my funny newspaper.
Circa 1972, at the dinner table one evening (us kids were teens), my sister referred to one of her classmates as a "dork". A dork at that time would probably be someone we would call a "nerd" today. Well, Dad had an absolute ****-fit, and chewed her *** out royal. I guess in his day (circa 1920's, 1930's) "dork" must have meant something else.
