Well hopefully this is the right place to post this...

I have a 1966 Dart 270 Wagon. It has many great ponts and some not so great. It has 76,000 oriiginal miles; I've put less than 100 miles a month since I bought it about 10 years ago [I crashed my previous '67 Dart and broke my back so I've never even driven the car, but I have paid friends to drive me if really needed]. One side of the body looks decent, but the other side will need major work [the car is kinda like Two Face from Batman]. Inside, the front seat needs to be reupholstered but the back seat is in great shape. The headliner is intact; the dashboard has no cracks. The engine & tranny are in great shape.

I'm apparently the 3rd owner. Well, technically the 4th. The car was originally owned by the proverbial little old lady who had bought it new and kept it for years but rarely drove it. It was then sold to these two guys who wanted to restore the body. They put a lot of work into it [I'll have to get that list from my roommate as he's the guy who does all of my mechanical work]. Those guys got bored and just left it at one of their mother's house in the yard. She got them to put it into her name so she could sell it and so she put a sign on it and my roommate saw it and told me about it right away. I got it for $1,000.

I'll add more when I get the info from my friend. I know he said to mention something about the tranny in my car that was kind of special. In the meantime, please enjoy the following pics :).

probably around 1500 on the low and maybe as much as 2500 depending on the condition of the mechanicals. open market it probably hits in betwen those numbers.

If you want to make it nicer and fix it a little bit and couldn’t do paint and bodywork the right front render and door even if you had decent replacement parts would cost you $1200 to 1500+ for materials and labor to get installed and painted. Hard to tell what is going on with the right quarter panel.

Thank you. This helps me a lot. Now I know where to start.. This is actually around what I was thinking; I just knew it had to be more than the $900 my friend says is all I can get.

Man, I treally hate to give this one up. I've had nothing but 60's Mopars for the past 30 years and I know I'll not be getting another one as I can't drive. I'm hoping to get enough for a down payment on a newer van that has a wheelchair lift in it. I already have saved cose to 4K and I do have really great credit rating...

here's the deal man, and i'm not tryin' to come down on you or nothing, but details matter in things like this. things that you may think are inconsequential could be the difference between several thousand dollars and an easy sale or a 900 car that you can't get rid of.

is it actually a 273? it could be any number of other small blocks. what flavor is it: 2 barrel? 4bb barrel? is it stock? what work has been done. the same with the transmission. is it what came with the car or has it been swapped or upgraded in some way? what makes it "kinda special"?

how does it run and drive? "the engine and tranny are in great shape" doesn't mean it's road worthy.

what's the rest of it like? are the brakes stock or have they been upgraded? does it have three different brand tires on it? do you have to jump it every time you want to move it?

get some pics and provide us with more information and we can help you navigate the sale a little better.

and here's a little tip: clean out the car and take decent pictures that are current when you list it. crappy photos don't sell cars and dirty cars invite people to low ball the **** out of you.

Thank you for that help; I will take it to heart. I am getting it cleaned up but wanting to get some pics out.

It is all stock, it is a 273 and is a 2 barrel. Brakes, too, are stock. The tires all match ]and I do have all the hubcaps]. It starts up very quick and runs well [I've taken it to San Rafel a few times with no trouble at all - that's about a 90 trip].

I will have to get back to you in a couple of days, regarding what work has been done on the engine & tranny, until I can contact my friend who really knows what's what with the car.

Again, thanks for the advice.

I'm willing to drop by after work during the week and look it over.
I work over on Morris St, right around the corner from the police station.
I dare not even consider buying another car, even though I've wanted one of these wagons for a long time.

pm sent.

Okay. I will have to contact my friend to aggange a time as I'm letting use the car to move these next few weeks. I have told him to prepare to make the car available already. I really would welcome you coming to see it.

This is a couple of things that make me turn away from a car for sale quicker than dirty big rust holes, and that is containers of oil, water or just rubbish on the floors and those asking big dollars that have not even bothered to vacuum out the carpet

Ill say this , to a person who wants to buy a car that runs and drive to car shows...maybe tinker a bit with points and a carb but no major repair issues...what's that worth? maybe drive it a season or two on the cruise circuit and sell it to get another car? than you have the true wagon fans and a 273 in that car = fun don't sell yourself short. I see body damage but is there rot? all that factors in banging out dents and smoothing the body out is fun for some also. I wont say what I think its worth that usually starts some guff...

I knew that jug was going to be problemic, but I couldn't reach it from my chair and I wanted to post some pics. According to my friend, the car has a small leak. I will have to get more info because I do want to give as accurate info as I can; I'm not that car savvy and know I'm sounding pretty ignorant here.

It think I may have posted prematurely and should have waited to get the car back, clean it up, get what my friend knows about it, then post. He will be returning it to me in the next couple of days. At which time I will get all of the info he has on the car. Then I will come back here and post all that I know.

I'm sorry if I've wasted anyone's time here, I jumped the gun on posting, but I hope the final pics and stuff will make it worth it.

Oh I certainly plan to put a lot of elbow greese into it! At least now I have an idea of what's what. As I said above, once I get the car back, clean it out and have a much more informative idea of the condition, I will return to pst it all. It's a shame that I posted pics so prematurelly as it's given a bad impression of the car. But I will come back here in a in a few with much beter info and much better pics.

Thanks for all of the help I've been given so far. I have to say that this site is way so more kind to newbs and is such a generally a better place to visit than a certain other Mopar site - You don't make me feel I'm an idiot regarding Mopar [even if I am :D].

Peace,

- Robb

Well, apparenntly I'm not getting my car back until the end of June. It's easier to just accept that than to try to fight it. I'vce known dude for 40 years and there's a lot of behind the scenes crap going on. So I'm afraid I will have to just sit out until I get it back. At which time I will have all the info he knows about the car and I will have cleaned it up and take better pics to post here.

So please stand by...

Please stand by...
