Allow me to begin. Recently purchased 65 Signet. The shift indicator didn't seem quite right. Removing the lid was easy as it wasn't attached. Someone took a 66 and up indicator, chopped it up, and held it in place with electrical tape. I'm sure someone can better this.

Wait- that's mine!

That replacement torque strut for my '15 Renegade failed after only 2500 miles.

The previous one was in for at least 95,000.

Funny, it's shifts the smoothest it's ever shifted now.

I've ordered another, this time with the "improved design" that has rubber blocks both in front and behind the bolt pad.

...but I just might keep my "improved" version.

First up is my '72 Challenger. Car was painted in the early '80s. 'Painter' removed the vinyl top trim and ended up breaking two studs which left a hole open. They put a screw in a different spot and naturally water leaked through the hole, down the panel seams and rusted out the rear filler panel and trunk. Quarters are rusted from the inside and the trunk is shot. Basically needs every panel from the doors back.

Water would sit in the rear channel and it rusted out the trunk support spot welds. One day someone opened the trunk and they popped. The fix was to put Allen bolts through the spot weld holes and smeared it some sort of sealer. At least they matched the paint OK.

Whoops!

Whatever it takes...

Yeah, that's not supposed to be there.

Next is this '69 Dart Swinger 340 4 speed, R4 red. Original owner car (recently passed away) that a friend of mine is trying to move for the widow. Car was 'restored' by a 'reputable shop' to the tune of nearly $90K. Crooks. This car needs a total restoration. Probably wouldn't get $15K for it in it's current state.

Same problem with the Challenger, water rusted out the rear filler. If I didn't know any better it looks like the rear quarters were glued on. Trunk is rusty and was left as-is but spray bombed black.

Older resto so quarters were '67-'69 but they didn't install the rear quarter marker lamps. Doh!

Rust under the vinyl top.

The whole underside from stem-to-stern was slathered with this black goop. Probably POR 15. What a hack job.

The dash of my D100 when I got it. Non of the lights worked. I tore it apart to find new LED bulbs with the wrong holders, siliconed in place.

Took me 2 hours to get all the silicone off the board. Bought all new, correct fixtures and bulbs and……..

I thought this was going to be a more positive take on members accomplishments, and skill level.

RustyRatRod did an online (YouTube) video/tutorial on how to install cam bearings.

That was A+1 great advice, and walked a person right through it.

I would show you my trunk drop down extensions but I'm not going to, "someone" really cobbled those together with scrap sheet metal and liberal amounts of seam sealer.

We've all done hack work before and we all justify it at the time. Yet we clutch our pearls when we run across someone else's hack job. Part of being human.

I don’t

If this was a competition, I think I’d win. The eBay listing said some rust - should have said some metal. Sheet metal screws and bondo on the quarters. A stick welded sub frame complete with floor section from another car. Big gap in the trunk surround. It was a hack job little shop of horrors.

Sorry, no pics but a friend of mine, who was one of 2 company mechanics, had to re-do a transmission line that the other guy had done. When he showed me the rotted line, caked in RTV, surrounded by a piece of slit rubber fuel line and tie wrapped, I almost spit out my coffee.

Oh man I have some doozies someone did to my 69 Dart Vert. Pics if I can find them later.

1. Swapped out round headlights for rectangular ones, destroying the bezels in the process.
2. Put what appears to be "grip tape" comparable to what you'd find around a pool, on all flat or metal interior pieces.
3. Jerry rigged gas assist for the trunk by drilling through the structure and trunk gutter to install mini u-bolts etc.
4. Painted all the stainless trim with what appears to be black paint from a can (brushed on).

All said and done, I did some pretty weird stuff for lack of knowledge as a youngster so I don't fault people too hard.

This is the exhaust pipe on the 1936 Plymouth I bought several years ago. It was one of the few pieces that hadn't rotted out!

1969 Dart. Previous owner converted to KH discs. The taper for the upper ball joint on the spindle was worn bad. He stuffed it with tin foil to take up the slack.

Nice jury rig for getting home, turned into permanent repair?
No. I think it was f**k it! I've already paid for these used spindles and I'm going to make it work.

Lots of other questionable work that had to be redone on this car.

I have seen some real doozies in my 30 plus years in body shops and as an auto appraiser. One shop in Chamblee GA (known as Chambodia) cut the front half of a frame rail off and used all of 4 spot welds to section in the new part.

Another tore a frame rail pulling it on a frame machine and welded a lawn mower blade in place to "strengthen" it.
