What is the difference? which is better on a 318 for the street? also Mopar viscous fan is that the same, thanx

A thermo clutch fan is as the name implies, heat activated. As is gets hotter, the fan clutch will enguage to drive the fan, when cool, theres a bit of disengaugement.

A non thermo fan is driven 100% all the time.

A Mopar viscous fan is a thermo fan and constantly dyno's the best numbers over all other fnas except an electric fan since it has no parrasidic loss from the belt.

A MP Viscous fan is your best bet mechanical fan next to the electric fan.

Thanx rumblefish, I found a stock fan shroud in perfect condition in the junkyard (not a easy find) for $17.00!! So I'm going to get rid of the fixed fan and install a clutch fan when I install the shroud.

Diameter may be an issue. Is the shroud a V-8 unit?
