Does anybody actually make a GOOD thermostat housing for a big block anymore? I think the are they same as the small blocks, but I cannot find a decent one.

The two Motorad ones on RA look pretty good, and under $10... haven't tried one, but they look to have a nice thick flange, unlike some of the chintzy stamped ones I've seen. That would be a good choice......but dammit. 34 bucks? For a thermostat housin?
i tend to put the crusty original ones back on mine cuz they are lying around and free
chrome dont get me home. haha

Thanks. I am leery of that one because when you google that part number, the good comes up and so does the shitty Dorman one. I ordered it though, so I'll keep you posted on "what I get". lol
This is what I got. The o-ring instead of a gasket is beautiful. Never leaks, and the o-ring is reusable many times.
Well at least it matches the intakeThe new housing I purchased had no "lip" on the end to "catch" the outlet hose, which I did not appreciate. I ended up taking an old factory original one (from a 340 intake manifold in storage) and cleaning it up best I could. It was pretty crusty on the inside; seems to be maybe cast iron, not sure.

Not good. Still uses the antiquated "leaky gasket". Get one with the o-ring and the leakage issue is solved once and for all.
I like the o ring idea ever since Harley went to them on the twin cam to replace the troublesome (leaky) cylinder base gaskets on Evo and earlier motors. As long as you don't nick them during install and as long as they're not Morton-Thiokol (if you know your Space shuttle history) o rings. It is a lot of money. But i like the idea o ring idea
I got a cast iron housing from Vatozone like 2 years ago for 10 or 15 bucks I believe. Not sure if they still carry the same model these days. Maybe O'Reillys might have something similiar?I would do just that if I had one.
