I found a running 1976 la360 out of a truck.

This is more of a long term project, either building it for my existing car or for another early abody

The complete engine is $500 obo. And I can pick up the transmission as well for a little more

Is this a good price? Just started looking and this popped up

thanks

It's a bit high, IMO, even if you can hear it run. I know where I can go right now and get one for about 150.

But location varies, too. Still seems high. To me.

All things aren't equal, but about 2 years ago I bought a 1979 360 out of a truck, supposedly recently rebuilt, for $200. To me this was a smokin' deal. The trans came with it. I agree with Rusty, it's a high side price.

Is there any difference between the 1976 and 1979 la 360? Or are they the same.

I was thinking about offering $300

I agree it seems a bit high - but if the history is good, the miles are low, and she is clean, it might be worth more than average. But if you are going to strip it down and build it anyways and you are not in a hurry, I suspect you can find a better deal. Or - you mentioned the seller has a B/O tagline on the ad - maybe offer him $300 - perhaps he just wants it out of his garage and was guessing at value?

Offer 500 for the engine and trans with all the attaching parts you can scoop up. If the fluids look good and a compression test yield good results.

I think 350 for the motor and trans- maybe $400 if the trans shifts good. If it's not really clean oil and really quiet and tight, it's probably closer to the core side and there's not a lot of valuable parts on a '76 motor. If you hear something about unreasonable bring up the honest point- it's an old motor and they had like 200hp stock. If you spend $500 on a motor without a trans, it should be a Magnum whether a 360 or a 318 with all the wiring.

Watch Craigslist closely! I found a 77 360 car motor ( car oilpan & car motor mounts ) and he through in the 904 all for $50. It's a rebuilder but this is also a long term project witch means time is on your side.
unless you intend on running it "as is" (witch I doubt ) that price is way to high. - imo.....
