This Ain't Mopar....

Thing sounds great :) I really like ford engines myself... just hate their wiring/suspension :)

My last ford stroker with AFRs and all the fun stuffs :)

The biggest thing I like about the Ford engines is, they took a more "modular" approach to their accessories. They can be removed one at the time, instead of a lot of the GM stuff, where you have to remove B to get to A.

I could be a 100% Ford guy real easy. If @Princess Valiant hadn't found Vixen for me, I probably would be.
Come over to the Dark Side, Rusty! We have cookies!

That is one SAWEEEET soundin' motah!

I am very much a blue oval loyalist myself, most of the vehicles I have owned are/were Fords, but I still wander over to Mopar and even GM if I like the vehicle. Hell, if my brother handed me the keys and title for his SS454 Chevelle or one of his Trans Am Firebirds I sure wouldn't be thinking twice.

Its easy to do. My daily is a 16' F-150 for 54 miles round trip. My dad has a 2000 F-350 with 260K with all the original untouched running gear, one of the few things he made it out with when all his property burned this summer. Historically my family has had good luck with Fords. But, they too can have issues like all the others.

Glad it’s up and running but damn that’s a splash oiled flat tappet cam! Bring the idle up so it gets some idle lube!

I'm actually hoping to DRIVE it Sunday. I would have already, but the P/S pump took a crud and I have one that will be here tomorrow. I never in my wildest dreams wouldda ever thought I'd have to order a Ford P/S pump. They used that same pump on literally everything for decades. At least I can still get one.
I hear you on that. Had to ORDER a Neon starter a couple days ago. They used that across several brands and decades.

Enjoy that "new truck" feeling, and paranoia!

For the first about hour and a half, it saw nothing under 2500. We varied between just under 3K to about 4500. Trust me, it splashed.

Yea it splashed during break in but when it’s idling down there choppin along at 600 it sounds good but it ain’t got no lube. Keep it alive, I’d hate to see you have to go through it again, turn the idle up to like 850-900 hot.

In the video is about the longest it has idled......and idling with about 80PSI I might add, so it's splashin some oil. Believe me, other then that so I could tell it was running right and yall could hear it, I've kept idle to a minimum. I have it up around 1200-1250 hot now. This weekend will be different after I get the P/S pump on it because then I can drive it.

It's good to have a balance of ford and mopar.

I have both brands now and it's a good variety
Definitely. Here's my two. My Duster's in my avatar. (Heading towards paint soon, I hope.

Oh yeah, thread relevance; glad you got it up and running, Rusty. I hope you cleaned EVERYTHING. It's a pita, but worth it. I agree with your assessment of bad cores/machining. I don't think many grinders care about flat tappets anymore.

That Fox body looks a lot like the one my neighbor's kid drives at BIR. Smart kid, doesn't drive it on the street, but he does start it up every now and then, and it sounds sweet!

But it's small block Ford and it's a subject that's been very popular. I got my 75 F250 back running again today after a camshaft and lifter failure. I ended up using Blueprint Engines 30SAE break in oil. I got the engine cleaned up from the failure, lubed the camshaft lobes with ZDDP paste and the journals with Ultra Slick. I coated the lifter bottoms with ZDDP paste and the sides with Ultra Slick. I also made some mods to help oil pressure, as these engines are known for problems in that area. That's why I put the truck down originally back in February. It lost oil pressure at idle. I got the engine running this afternoon. I primed it the day before, so oil pressure buried the 80PSI gauge as soon as it fired. I got the RPM up to the ~3000 RPM range varying it somewhat. I ended up having a bit over an hour run time on it. Cut it off and let it cool all the way back down then restarted it and gave it some RPM a little while longer. When I felt like it was enough, I finally let it idle. It was the same old lumpy Crane Fireball it was that I took out. Holds about 40 oil pressure hot and will bury the 80 mark at 2K. I went ahead and dropped the break in oil out tonight and removed the filter. There was ZERO metal in the oil and ZERO metal in the filter. I think maybe we got it. It runs good. There's no valve train noise whatsoever, and it doesn't skip or run rough. I do have some leaks at the collectors under the truck I need to fix and of course, the power steering pump decided to take a crud. But so far, it's lookin good. Anyway, here's Gladys back in all her lumpy glory. I hope for a long time now.

Hey Rusty, old Crane Fireball? Weren't those 3/4 race cams?

I've never seen them referred to as such, but it wouldn't surprise me. .505/.515 228/232 @.050 on a 108 and it has some chop in this 400 with a 4" stroke.

I took her down the road this mornin. Probably about 5 miles round trip. Runs good. Good oil pressure. No noises. Hopefully I got it licked.
