I guess there was a wreck over the weekend and the driver admitted he had been drinking. I guess a discussion will be coming up in the near future.

My wife used to work for the owner of PMS, Pittsburgh Motor Speedway. Half mile dirt oval near the airport. We got in free. The Street Stocks pitted in the parking lot. EVERYBODY was drinking.

That was one expensive "drink". That lexan carb hat is about right.....Who puts a pole next to the run out?
?

Back in the 70's and 80's drinking in the pits was common, but so was drinking and driving in public.
We would drive to the track with a trunk load of beer, put on the slicks and race.
Spending the night in a tent was common.
We didn't drink and race, but after the pits would be floating with drunks.
I think drinking has it's place and it's certainly not driving a car.
I vaguely remember my dad colliding with the Pa turnpike median in 1972 after he and my uncle decided we were going home. He learned his lesson not to drink and drive after my uncle kicked his *** on the turnpike that night.
Stay safe, no drinking and driving.

Sad thing is I'm sure he's not the first nor the last drive to have a drink before racing. Some people are just idiots.
