Today I spent my time building a present for my grandsons first birthday party tomorrow. Stacey was going to buy a small plastic sandbox, but I intervened! I'm not a carpenter, but I think it turned out just fine.

I turned this.....

And of course I enjoyed a few cold Canadians while doing so!

Happy Canada Day everyone!!

Thanx guys. I copied a sandbox I found on the net for the most part. But I refined it a little with the cedar. With the sun here and the little guy loving being outside, it was the only smart thing to do. This is him at the mud bogs a few weeks back.

look great

if I could make one suggestion...put a pair of doors on it, like you would find on a cellar
(maybe put a simple latch on the top so they can be secured in the open position when the little lad is playing in it)

that will help the neighbourhood cats from mistaking it for a litter box

Thanx all. I have been toying with the idea of doors and sides that lay out flat for a play area. But I haven't yet conjured up the design in my mind! For now though I think I will get something like this pictured below......

my main idea would be a version of this

with a simple latch on the tops, to secure them in the open position

or, if you want to go fancy, something like this
