Thumbwheel or not?

I'm not sure if I asked this question before,but I am curious on when(month and day) they changed from the thumbwheel radio to the knob style radio? My one Demon has a build date of 10/5/1970 and wondered what bezel/radio it should have in it. I want to get a new bezel, and PG Classics has one listed that says '70-'71 A/C and thumbwheel which kind of confuses me? I hope it is just a misprnt.

I would have to say that when Demons came out,they should never have had a thumb wheel.
