wanting to swap to a 360 in my 64 dart. What are the problems/headaches with going with a 2000 (or thereabouts) vintage truck engine? They seem to be plentiful - and torquey. Since it has a dizzy, seems like it would be an easy swap to a carb and manifold. What about transmissions available? I just want something that sounds good and has a good bit more poop than the slant will give without a lot of mods.

It is a pretty easy swap. I have had a magnum in my 65 dart before.

What did you use for a tranny? Can I keep my typewriter? What about exh. manifolds and pans; steering parts, etc.?

If your car has a V-8 in it now, it will make things easier. I don't have experience with narrow bodies but I believe you need a V-8 cross link. A small block V8 trans will work (not a /6) whether a 904 or a 727 but supposedly the 727 will contact the pinch weld in the tunnel. You also have to have the right balance goodies in place. Also I think the trans mount is only scalloped out for a single exhaust to pass under. I occasionally see a guy who has truck 360's in his 65 Valiant and Dart. It is a low RPM engine as pulled and it's done by 4500 RPM. He used the Mopar carb intakes and distributors. One car has a mild cam and Doug's headers and the other has cast manifolds. The milder one goes mid 14's and the hotter one dips into the upper 12's. it is unbelievable how mild these things sound.

I have everything you need to convert your car. Push button V8 904 trans, 65 V8 motor mounts, exhaust manifolds, steering link, radiator, magnum 4bbl intake manifold, heck I even have a good magnum motor 5.2.

V-8 early A's have a special depression in the oil pan so the steering linkage doesn't hit as it travels. A 273 pan won't fit a 360 due to the larger rear bearing hump, but would fit a 318. You might have to add your own depression with a hammer. I think the truck pan won't fit your car, so need a car one.

The distributor in a 2000 Magnum motor must be the later style that has a cam sensor, not a reluctor, so won't work w/ an old ignition box. However, any old small block distributor should fit in the motor.

Sounds really good! Where are you located? And tell me about the condition of the tranny and engine - good for bolt in or good for building? $?

Thanks!

Dave
