The car seems to be pretty solid now But, I'm wanting to get some more fine tuning actually. My timing down to all in at about 36 to 38. Oddly enough it seems to run and idle faster at even higher timing? I do have a wide bands o2 sensor and its reading about 12.8 to 13 at idle and it goes down to like 11.2 -10.9 that wide open throttle? I'll ad some pictures of my spark plug and the size I'm using? all experience would be greatly appreciated, thank you . ...View attachment 20150718_115310.jpg

Too rich at WOT, should be around 12.5ish. 14.0ish at cruise, and 13ish at idle. You'll find what your car likes as you go. These numbers are just base lines.

Is that specs of metal on the fire ring and insulator? If so that is detonation. Burn line on the ground strap is to low = to much timing.

Ahhh.... now I remember, I saw that thumb along Interstate 76 outside of Sterling, Co. You were hitchhiking... Yes.... that's it....

X2 better fuel or less timing

PoisonDart74, i like both of them links:D

Don't confuse reducing your total timing with reducing your initial timing (taking out timing by turning the distributor). You need to reduce your total timing by reducing the mechanical advance, not by simply turning your distributor.

Vacuum advice is disconnected, 24 initial - about 38 all in.

That is what I thought looking at that pic. Under a microscope those black spots could be aluminum. It certainly resembles a photo in the old Champion plug guide....
I don't know how quickly that wideband is responding but I would err on the rich side at WOT.

Just lock your distributor. That is what I did on my small block at 35*. It made it idle alot better.

So when you dial it back to 34 total are you making the adjustment to keep it at 24 initial?

No, I guess that's where I'm coming up short on knowledge. Tuning the inside of the distributor.
as of now I am sure a little bit less on both end wouldn't hurt . Don't most have a little less initial anyhow?
