Anyone here bought a quality slant double roller timing chain lately and where did you get it/cost.

I believe my truck originally was equipped with a double roller, I have read that industrial hydraulic slant sixes had these but the engine builder put in a cheap single stock unit.

I am building the truck for durability and trying to optimize what low end performance I can get out of it, Im not going racing and have no desire to turn high RPMs just want to put the highest quality parts within it for longevity purposes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have sent an E-mail to Cloes and am hopeful for a response from them that they still carry the chain I am after.
 
Can't help you on specifics these Chineseo'd days, but please replace all three components. Also, some so called "double roller" chains are "fake." That is, they are not really "roller"

Yes, I did not realize I needed to clarify that, I am looking for all 3 pieces. Thanks for the correction
 
Go to Ebay and search either Rollmaster or JP timing set for a slant. They are the same part. Very high quality.
 
About a month or two back I did an extensive search for the same and ended up buying what Rusty posted. Only other place you MIGHT find one is Australia and shipping will be brutal.

I got mine from napa but had to order each piece seperately. Can't remember the p/n's anymore.

I dont see anything JP listed, the rollmaster is the chain I mentioned in first post, I guess Ill prob. go with that, I thought I had options but not looking like many at this point. Thanks

I have the part numbers, called Napa and the chain was avail locally, the gears had to be special ordered, cost is about the same as the Rollmaster unit when all said and done and correct me if Im wrong but I dont think the Napa unit will have the adjustable keyways which evidently I may or may not need.

As I said they are the same. JP bought out Rollmaster. Same part.
 
Some slant sixers have reported that they have had to modify the crank sprocket, on the Rollmaster/JP sets, to get the sprockets to line up, and also that the crank sprocket fits excessivly tight. Some have said it was/is a crank problem. I don't know, personally, just bringing this up, so you are aware of it and can check it. I don't know of anyone haveing this problem with the Cloyes sets. However I don't know if Cloyes has any cam sprockets left. I did a group buy several years ago with Cloyes, for hand matched sets, and they didn't have many cam sprockets left, after that.
PS: the Cloyes parts were what was used in the OEM Mopar 225-3 heavy duty slant six.

No, I don't remember the NAPA gears to have multiple key ways.

However, would the small block offset cam key way kit work with the slant 6?




Yeah, I love how NAPA charges you for shipping if the part isn't available locally. WTF? Back in the old days, the ma and pop parts stores went to the local warehouses at least 3 times a day and never charged a shipping fee. I could get the part in 1/2 day to one day max and no shipping fee. Now NAPA charges us because they don't have the part in stock locally...

NAPA gears do not have multiple keyways. The small block offset key will not work, however the big block Mopar, and Chevy offset bushings will work.
 
Can't get as good a deal as 2 years ago. I can get Cloyes double roller timing sets for the slant six for $105 per set plus shipping from me. Need a minimum order of 5 sets. If anyone is interested PM me.

Not a bad deal at all and very nice quality. I bought a set during the .org group buy and will have a chance to use it shortly on my 65 Dart slant build.

What kind of time frame before I can have my hands on one, not that I am pressed for time but on the same token I dont want to wait one month plus to get the thing. I have an engine I am trying to put back together.

Sounds like its going to be a waiting period and that is why I ask.

Im all over it assuming there isnt a long waiting period, thanks Charlie
 
I would guess, about 7-10 days after I receive enough orders (and money).
I order them over the phone, and last time I had them in about 3-4 days. Then I have to ship them out from here.
 
It's a tad wider than stock. I had one but gave it to Matt. He can tell you about it. They are pretty nice.
 
I have a Crow Cams double row roller timing chain set.....they are made by Rollmaster anyway.....can't remember how much it was.....it has 9 keyways.

That's the rollmaster one. It's very nice quality but myself and several others had alignment issues. I had to remove .040 off the back of the crank gear and had the bore honed out to be a light press fit. My machinist said that is pretty common for aftermarket timing sets (of any brand).

Looks like this will not happen. Only had two people interested, here. None over at slantsix.org. Sorry.
