to plug or not to plug

-
Anyone know where to get these? Measured the hole size, both were .583" which seems to make no sense. Standard plugs seem to be either too big or too small. 9/16=.5625, 37/64=.5781, 19/32=.5938, have a 9/16" which of course is way small.

I believe that 19/32 should work fine. It is .010 over but they collapse pretty much when you drive them in. I just tried one in an extra 360 block I have hear and it looks like it will go in fine. I didn't actually drive it in all the way because I'm not ready to put plugs in it but I started it and it looked like it would go on ok. You should be able to get it at the local auto supply if you don't have one. I think I got the ones I have at NAPA. Another place to try would be a engine machine shop.

Why plug them? When the the plate is installed it blocks the holes. Just curious on this. Thanks Jeff

Jeff the cover may cover them up and half way seal it but it's not oil tight. It will leak some if you don't plug them. Ask me how I know.:banghead:
