I assume that the oil flow into the filter is through the un-tapped hole in the block shown in the photo. What is the tapped/plugged hole for?

Also, I'm going to buy a remote filter kit to avoid the cramped conditions with the 2-1/2" head pipes. I will need a block adapter to fit this mounting, and I need the inlet/outlets to be horizontally oriented. Any suggestions on a decent setup that won't cosst me an arm & a leg?

They had to drill that passage to get the clean oil from the filter back into the engine. That gallery intersects with the other gallery drilled from the bell housing area and when they all come together you have to tap that gallery there so the oil coming from the filter to the engine doesn’t just circulate around the whole filter area.

You can also remove that plug, install a 3/4-16 plug in the clean oil return gallery and use a remote mounted filter. You also need to thread the gallery thats not threaded and you screw a fitting into those galleries.

At that point the lower gallery now has a hosed hooked to it that goes to the inlet of the remote filter and the upper gallery has the hose coming from filter with the clean oil.

IMO thats the only way to do a remote filter. All that other bolt on **** just adds nasty 90 degree turns and it’s just not worth it.
