Put a fresh 904 on the 66 I'm working on and reused the original torque tube. I put five in the pan, started in neutral then added four and checked it. I'm over on the stick by about two inches. So the question is, how much fluid stayed in the tc? Should I or could I have cleared all the fluid before I reused it?
Thanks.
Jim

9 quarts for a 904 is max with a dry trans and converter using a stock pan..Depending on the diameter of the converter and if the converter didn't have a drain plug as much as 2 quarts will be in a used converter. The ones without a drain are tough to empty completely.

Thanks Darter6.
No drain plug, stock converter. I'm kind of a dumb *** sometimes.
What's the best way to drain the extra fluid? Pull the drive shaft??
Thanks.
Jim

Better than messin" with the pan. Sometimes I remove the speedo gear housing.Measure the amount drained, take out at least one quart.
