Hey guys I know this isn't pertaining to an A-body, but I am sure someone might have some info to help me. I am putting together a LWB 83 d150, and I have putting a warmed up 440 in it , stock motorhome bottom end, aluminum heads, a 475/494 lift 262/268 duration lunati voodoo cam, a performer intake, and summit 750 carb and am wondering what stall range torque converter would be good for it. It will be used to pull my duster to the track, I think the cam operating range is 1400-5700, hughes has a towing converter with 1800-2000 stall will this be too low? I don't think my cam is really to aggressive. Thanks

I'm running voodoo 262 cam in 350 chebby 72 3/4 ton. I run the stock converter with . 3.73 gears. It works great with the stock converter. Probably be more fun with 2000 stall but not needed. Also it idle with 17 in of vacuum great cam!

You don't want a very high stall converter if your pulling a big load cause it'll slip a lot and overheat the trans. That is a real small cam for a 440 so it doesn't really need a converter any higher stall than stock and there's no way that cam will pull 5700 in a 440. A 340 maybe but not a 440. I used one of the Hughes 1800-2200 towing converters in a buddy's 3/4 ton Chevy and it worked real well and that's about as high as you want to go for pulling loads.
