@ 2nd time trial at bracket race last Saturday. Slipping like crazy. Was able to get it down the track but couldn't make it back to my trailer. 727 Torqueflite with all of the good parts inside. Motor and tranny are out of car and tranny is going to rebuilder today. Hopefully can be saved without too many parts. Tearing down motor while it's out checking for wear. Rings, bearings, new valve springs at least. Will try to deal with a couple of nagging issues while it's torn down.
Why couldn't this happen during the off-season!

Oof, yeah, that is the way it seems to go. I had a transmission go out in the same way the week before the division finals race back in 2013. I pulled the trans, took it to a friend who rebuilt it in a day, I picked it up the following day and put it back in the car...made a few test hits on the highway and all was well. Actually won enough $$$ at the division finals to pay my friend for the rebuild :-)

Rebuilding the transmission is the easy part.. You do all that work to the engine and send out the easy part???..
Yes. I don't work on transmissions. I just break them. Although this one was built for me in 2014 and has been raced hard ever since, so I'd say it lasted pretty good considering the horsepower being put to it. It's going to the builder today, we'll see what he finds inside.

$115 rebuild kit...

I think the only transmission that is simpler than a 904 or 727 was the automatic two-speed...
Certainly easier than rebuilding a carburetor just bigger parts...

Sorry, but tranny is in the back of the truck going to the rebuilder today. Nothing to see there anyway. Motor is torn down, I have a few of that if you want to see them.

I'm just guessing here. But this must also be a street car? Otherwise, how does a race car let its owner know in the off season that the tranny is out? Just curious. Cuz I'd like to teach my race cars this trick too.

This is why people put you on ignore. How did this help the guy? You totally couldda gone without sayin all that. butthole.

Piston tops appear peppered from some detonation....or is that just carbon? Also in that one picture, almost looks like the skirt is trying to gall in that cylinder. I would inspect everything very closely.

You guessed wrong. Race car only.

I thought this was going to be a "walks into a bar" joke by the title of the thread:lol:

On the motor, about 2 years of racing almost every weekend. Transmission since 2014, same frequency.
I dont know if you plan on pulling the pistons out but if you do I would be tempted to mic them. Those skirt marks in the cylinders look like they have a story to tell.

Come on over. Where are you located?
In case you didn't notice I said I don't work on transmissions. If you think that my racing tranny would be a good one to learn on I'm not willing to take that chance.
The hard part is taking the transmission out and putting it back in..
Transmission pan is self-explanatory and the three screws that hold the filter on. Then of course the 10 screws that hold the valve body on.. I think the pump has what 8 bolts on it on the front of the transmission? And pretty much after that everything just pulls right out.... Front barrel has a band around it that just falls out and the rear end is generally laying there when you pull the second drum out. The drums each have two lip seals and some clutches and steels and a metal snap ring that holds them all together....
Nobody fell out of their mom knowing how to rebuild an engine or tear it apart and put things back together the same with the transmission. For whatever reason the world has made a transmission into this voodoo magical thing that's really quite simple once you've tried it once...
The name of the threat is"TRANSMISSION WENT OUT"...
Crusty rat mod jumps on here shooting his mouth off trying to become Captain save A hoe... Really it's him that I should have on ignore...
After putting cams and heads on an engine it starts to get boring repetitively and not that exciting so sometimes you just got to move on and learn something else...
When I talk to a member that managed transmission shops and he told me if one of his guys couldn't rebuild three of these in a day they would be looking for somewhere else to work pretty soon...
Bottom line is I'm just encouraging you to enjoy your hobby a little more...
