Hi everyone, I'm getting ready to start buying parts for my 727.
So far I know I'll be buying a steel billet front drum, a bolt in sprag. My friend and fellow member may have talked me into going with a trans brake valve body.
My question is, what else do I need to think about when using a trans brake.
Have been looking at turbo action and their shifter.
The car is still being built when I have the spare time, 70 swinger, trickflow headed 470 b engine and a narrowed Dana 60 in the back with caltrac split mono leafs and assassin bars, I have 29.5 11.5 w hoosiers for slicks and looking to run 10.00s or close, slower than 10.00s.
Anybody have any advice?
Thank you.
Also, I have no experience with transbrakes (driving)

Spend the money for a good converter, specifically built for a transbrake. And the rest of the drive train has to be stick shift strong. Edit: sounds like you have that handled, but make sure your driveshaft is good enough. I ran a four inch aluminum with 1350 joints and billet yokes.
But damn, they are fun. I was more consistent on the lights with mine, but that may be just me.
Lots of guys with tb use a two step, but I had a light car with lots of tire. I would just stage, floor it at the first yellow, step off the brake at the third. 5300rpm leave.

Oh yeah, this is what can happen to a non-transbrake converter....(mine).

Sounds like Fun!

I used a cheetah shifter with mine, worked fine. I had a very tall trans tunnel in mine, I used the button on the shifter t-handle for the line lock, and a button on the tunnel for the brake.
Lots of guys like the button on the steering wheel, but imo, that pulls your hand off the wheel. The way I had mine, when I came off the button my hand went straight TO the steering wheel.
Definitely something to play with, to suit your preference.

Button placement is definitely a thing. If it's on your shifter, putting the transmission in reverse can be a PITA if you drive it on the street. Especially if you have manual steering.

I have mine mounted on the steering wheel. My alignment has a lot of caster so parking is a 2 handed affair. Much easier to do with the button on the wheel

Cope Racing makes their own trans-brakes. Haven't used one but have friends that do and they've had no issues

100% agree. John built my TB 904 and it was worth the money. Best trans I've ever had. I pulled the pan when I got it to install a sensor, and OMG, it's pretty in there. Lol. Shame you can't see it

Is there a price difference between a really good converter and a really good converter that handles a trans brake, probably a dumb question.
Frankly, I'm not sure there is. All of the stuff that must be done for a tb, should be done to a quality converter. The one I blew up, was replaced by a custom built for my horsepower/torque and car weight and the tb..... and I picked up two tenths and three mph in the eighth.
If memory serves, I paid more for the converter than the trans.

Okay thank you for all the info you posted. I'll call up a converter company next week to get an idea.

John built my reverse manual 904 and it has been flawless
I'm most likely going to buy from CRT, but the turbo action is good and a bit more budget friendly for me.
Actually I take that back, it's not a big price difference lol. Crt it is

Wow, good thing I have a big block up front.
I really don't want to be doing wheelies like that my 1st time out in a untested car lol.
Those cars are set-up purposely to do that. Getting that type of chassis reaction by accident is highly unlikely.
As an aside, when I first was driving my car after newly putting it together, I was racing at a borrowed runway dragstrip, and track prep wasn't great. I didn't think I was spinning much, but it must have been some.
Went to a real dragstrip, did my typical launch, and WHAT THE F#%k was THAT?
Oh wait! So THATS what a wheelstand feels like!?! (Was told it left with the wheels up a foot or so. )
Dang that's fun......
