Transmission won't find park

Just put the engine in with new stall and new tranny pan. For somereason it won't go into park. All other gears work fine. Anyone have instructions or advice on how to fix/troubleshoot?

My amateur mechanic installed the converter and pan only. The pan came with filter gasket etc. Is this a linkage problem?

remove shifter linkage from transmission...and move trans arm to see if park will engage...

As it is right now I can hear the park shaft clicking to find it's spot but wont fall in. Is there an adjustment or something?

Any suggestions on this problem or how to fix it? I need details if possble. I dont know much about working on trannys.

..........Its possible its the linkage, was this set up already in the car,up and running/driving ,was it a 6 cyl, consol or column shift,aftermarket shifter........kim.....
