Trasmission fluid

so I need to top off my transmission fluid. Couple questions?

Is there like a recommended brand?

Where exactly does it go into? (Fail I know)

Do I check it with the engine hot or cold? I have always been told hot, just making sure.

65 dodge dart 273, automatic.

Check in neutral, idling, hot. ATF+3 (dextron) is the original fluid, but Dodge says the upgrade for most Mopars is ATF+4

ATF+4 is overkill IMO unless your car calls for it or you like putting $8/quart of fluid in because you use it on the dragstrip, then its just reassurence. dextron III is all you need

And it is ALOT cheaper. sometimes $2 a quart. That adds up.
