Just sitting hear on a Saturday night when I should be out working on the car and decided to ask your thoughts about my idea of the trim scheme Im considering doing on my Dart. First Here is the actual scheme I am planning on painting. This was my practice with spray bombs to get an idea of what it would look like.

I may massage the borders some and would appreciate your thought, if you see a better line to follow here as I have NO eye for imagination!
My other thought is to re use the front 2 trims that paralleled the original trims.

I have saved the letters so I can put the GT DART on the rear quarters.

I still plan on keeping the pentastar as well as the original V8 emblem. I even bought 2 of the new Dodge emblem stickers that I could put on and clear over. They are about 1 1/2" tall by 6" long.
Lastly i have a pair of the Stainless GT rocker panel moldings that I am considering putting on along with the small chrome rear wheel molding that goes in front of the wheel wheel.
On the rear of the car I am going to use the original GT plate that covers the rear trunk deck but removing the original Doge emblem that came on the 270 trunk lid.
Look forward to hear your thoughts and dont be afraid of hurting my feelings. I am open to any idea.
Thanks
Rod

Tough call Rod. I own a GT and like all the chrome but I really like 270 post cars with the wide molding down the side. With the wedge style scheme you are planning, all the side mlds. need to go away. Splash shields might look good but the rocker mld. might make it look to fancy. Use a bit of clear packing tape to attach the trim and take a few photos to see what it will look like. I was never a big fan of the double spears on the front fenders. tmm

The car length side trim needs to go because of the paint scheme.
Wheel trim may or may not look good.
I like the "dart" on the front fender.
I think some rocker trim will make the side view shorter & might look really good.

I've never liked the side trim on the 66 270, including the two short pieces up front. But, that's my opinion...

Well since you asked for opinions...I agree with Mike the wide trim looks great on these cars and lose the front fender spears. these cars have so much style and interesting body lines that they don't need stripes or fades on them. Personally I would leave the side molding on and paint it any of the great original Mopar colors. That being said first and foremost it's your car and you should do it the way you love it. If you are going to ditch the side trim let me know I would like to have it! Lol

I guess people being different makes the world more interesting for sure.
your car, do it to suit you!
keep in mind, when you customize a car, and you go to sell it, many potential buyers will not LIKE what you did. if someone chooses to buy it, they will have to change it to suit their tastes and likes. and that costs money.
but for now, I say do it to suit your tastes!!!!!
I personally could ditch all the side trim, and paint it one of the good ( solid) factory colors, and NO I wouldn't mess with the fender characyer lines.

As others have said it comes down to personal preference. A lot of my customers have a little trouble picturing a finished product as well. My advice to them and you would be the same. Pick one theme for the car and stick with that through out the car. The paint scheme you have laid out Choose says drag race theme to me. More of a modern version than a nostalgic theme.
