Trouble with console shifter linkage

Sounds like the lever on the trans is the wrong one. Those are of different lengths.

Are all the bushings intact and tight? If they're sloppy, you'll have that problem.

I had similar issue putting floor console in column car.
I found the linkage bar on the shifter itself in the car was a little bent and needed some tweaking by trial by error. Got it to work normally afterall.
