Purchased a 68 Barracuda with a 340 and a 4 speed. Was originally a automatic car no torque boxes present. Vin has a P for engine code so its a 340. Unfortunately no fender tag or build sheet. Core support matches rear trunk lip but that does me no good with the fender tag. Is there any way to know if its a true Formula car or no.

In 1968 I believe all 340 Barracudas were Formula S. Not so for 1969 when the 340 was available without the Formula S or the new 'Cuda package. The only restriction was it required a 4-speed or automatic. No 3-speed manuals allowed.

Yes all 340 cudas were Formula cars as well and the 383 cars. Im asking is there any way to really confirm its a real 340 since vin is only thing present..no fender tag or sheet

As I recall One of them was an A56 car, and the other was an A53 car.
IIRC the Cuda's were A56
As I recall, all 'Cuda's were 4-speed only.
As I recall, there was no A-code for a 68 Cuda.
But I'm going from memory........ and I'm 72 now, so ..................

BTW, Nice looking fb.

Does the vin stamped on the back of engine block match the dash vin?

The only way on a 68 to tie the vin to the body is the buildsheet.

As I recall, all 'Cuda's were 4-speed only.

I believe that the 4spd was standard on' cuda (except 440 where it was not available) as was a bench seat and no folding rear seat, however could be optioned with the 727, as well as any interior option.

I've owned six Second gen Barracudas; All were buckets and console, and all were coded for buckets, (C16 IIRC.)
One of them was coded for Formula S , but when I got it in 83, it was wearing the Cuda package. The story I got from the Second owner, was that the First owner had wanted a Cuda, but that none were available..... So, the dealer was commissioned to make the necessary changes. As for me, I didn't care, I just wanted a 340/4-speed car, lol. And I still have it, altho she's a genuine rust-bucket now.
Actually, I still have 4 of them, lol.

Just to clarify, that’s for the 1969-only ‘Cuda model. A53, A56
