So, I have been toying with the idea of mounting my hood mounted snorkel scoop to the tunnel ram instead. Then a lift off fiberglass hood could be taken off leaving the scoop in place. Who has done this and how did you go about it?

wouldnt the snorkel overlap the hood?
you would have to lift the back of the hood up, tilt the front down and slide it over

not sure if that would work well

I think the scoop flange was mounted under the hood line. Looking for pictures of what I was thinking of.

Post a pic of your scoop.

My front end tilts, the hood lifts off and the entire front end comes off with four bolts. All of that happens with my scoop mounted to the tunnel ram.

For some reason I can't find any better pics of the scoop or tilt but I can take more.

I have a classic 8" snorkel scoop. I have typically run without a hood at all, or if a trip, then just the hood with a hole in it. The hood is damaged and thought of replacing it with a race weight lift off and mount the scoop to the tunnel ram with the mounting flange under the hood line. I have the available height and it will lower the overall height of the scoop a tad.

Ah, a little confusion. I have a scoop like yours I use occasionally. I meant a full fiberglass hood mount style scoop, but mounting it to the tunnel ram like some dragsters have.

It would just have to mount to a shaker style scoop mount then, no?

Just make the plate out of 3/16 aluminum ,sandwitch it between carb and manifold. bolt your scoop to it? Easy peasy.

As a bonus that big aluminum plate in cool air will keep your carb super cold.

Yes I guess so. Just wondering where people are mounting them to so as to stay away from carb linkage, etc. I don't know, thinking out loud in the winter..

I think that would be too high. Will have to drop the outer ring. Maybe not.

You could make it a "drop base" style if you have acess to a finger break, and can tig weld aluminum.

Ooooo

Blot the plate between the plenum and intake runner?

Punch a hole out the back for linkage and air to exit. You probaly dont want all that air stuck in the scoop anyway.

Yes I have access to a break and can TIG. I will have to play with it a bit over this winter. If anyone has pics of their set up, Please send.

Maybe a mounting flange on the scoop so it mounts to the carbs. This pic shows the hood Dzeus fastened to the scoop on the sides and a inner plate. So, same but different maybe.
