Problem: Turn signals do not work:
Symptoms: Nothing lights when the ignition switch is turned ON and the turn signal switch is actuated.
Knowns:
- All pertinent exterior lights light AND FLASH as they should when the hazzard lights are activated.
- Brake lights light when the brakes are applied.
- TS flasher is good; swapped it out with the Hazzard one. - No issues.
- At one point since owned before me, someone butchered some of the harness under the dash; not unusual for a car this old.
It looks like they got tired of the nagging warnings about seat belts. They guttted the under-seat wiring. Also, there is was some sort of a relay that hung out just to the right of the fuse block. It thas one brown and one yellow lead in an "L" configuration. Only the base of it was present when i bought the car. Could have been a tiime delay or seat belt nagger.

Possible causes:
a wire disconnect somewhere.
bad TS switch in the Steering column.

Before I tear my steering column apart, I suspect there's something awry in the wiring.
I've spent about three days now tracing and troubleshooting, trying to understand the power flow through the TS harness connector on an input out/output basis but I'm stumped.
There are eight wires on that connector as follows:
1 White
2 Brown
3 Green
4 Red
5 Pink
6 Tan
7 light Green
8 Black/* (w/White tracer)

#'s 5 Pink and 8 Black/* are hot when everything off and the batterie's connect
Is the #4 Red pin supposed to be the output FROM the turn signal switch to the FLASHER?
From what I can schematically see, that RED wire on the connector should
electrically be the same as the RED terminal of the TS flasher.

If anyone understands the power flow through this harness connector and can explain it, please shed some light.
Thanks in advance.

no seat belt light on the dash of a 71’
ok. Thanks. The more I look at the schematics at the back of my 71-89 Haynes Dodge, Plymouth & Chrysler repair manual, the more I think that one of the two following assessments is true:
1- the red pin on the harness to which the turn signal assy connects should have B+ present from the TS FLASHER. If so, the power travels up through the harness and TO the TS SW. Then, the red [pin/wire] distributes B+ to the brown & tan pins for a right turn and to the green and Light green terms for a left turn. The BLack wire I believe supplies power to the horn switch which grounds when actuating the horn and the white terminal gets B+ when the brake pedal is depressed.
OR
2 - the power flows up through the PINK wire in the TS SW harness and gets connected to the RED pin via the switch thus feeding the power to the OUT to the lights as above AND also directing power to the RED wire attached to the TS FLASHER. (In which case it IS fairly likely that the TS SW IS the culprit after all.)
Any electrical wizzards out there that can shed some light? I smell steering wheel puller!

Welcome aboard.

Jus' saying, but MyMopar.com has factory service manuals you can download, free, for many years. You may have to settle for Dodge/ vs / Plymouth, etc.

The manual I'm lookin at shows the flasher has black and red. Red, D2-18R (means circuit D2, no 18 gauge and Red) goes to the 4th terminal from the pointed end of the TS switch connector coming out of the column. You should be able to access that by removing the short trim panel under the steering column. The black at the flasher should be "hot" with the key in "run." If nothing else, you can run a jumper wire across the flasher connector and cause the lamps to light up steady when you activate the TS switch. If the thing is getting power, the brake lights work, and WIGGLE THE HAZARD switch several times, then the TS switch is bad

I will go into the steering column and continue there. It'll be a couple of days til I can get to it.
Thanks for the info!
