Two Questions ??

Anybody know what this does, It goes in the heater box, I'm guessing it's a resistor so the heater motor can have 2 speeds.

They should have small allen head screws holding them in. If these are the heater knobs then they are press fit I belive.

Heater blower resistor. Yup the switch puts the resistor inline with the motor for slow speed. It's mounted in the airstream of the blower to keep it cool

What does the end of the shaft look like? Could be headlight knobs, in which case they do NOT come apart

They are for the heater controls, no set screws...

I got the knobs off, just grab the shaft in the vice and use a screwdriver to pry them up.
