After putting it off for way to long, I got off my *** & started to strip down the Duster. A few weeks ago I took the front window, dash, tach & a few other small things off the car. Today took the doors, front bumper, & left fender off. After getting the fender off, it looks like it's saveable. The doors will go on the new body that I got from this Awesome website. Had to break out the sawsall for a few things... A friend of mine works at a wrecking yard & I asked if they can cube the body after its picked clean & she said yes. Gonna use it for a base for a table..

It is sad to see them this way but you can rebuild another one out of the parts. This time you can do some of the things you wished you had did on this one and make it better. Good Luck with it Ronnie

I had a 1970 b5 auto that was destroyd that way in 1977. leaving high school sittingin line at a stop sign. when a girl driving a vista cruser drove in to me at about 55mph hit me drove me intocar in front of me and4 other cars in front of it bad bad day.

I'm glad that you'll be able to use some of it for your new build. And getting it cubed to use as a table base is a pretty neat idea. I really liked that car and thought it was one of the nicest Dusters I've seen.

Glad to see you back on here again, Russell. And glad to see you're going ahead with the new build. What's the plans? Same color and all or are you going to change it up some?
Keep us posted on the build progress.
I like the idea of the table base - that will be a real conversation piece!
Sure hope there aren't any lasting health issues for either you or your kids from the accident.

Thats just hard to look at. That was a very nice Duster. Glad I got to check it out when it was still in it's prime. Must be hard on you to strip her down. At least some of the parts will live on.

Thanks for the kind words Ken. The new car will get painted the same blue with black stripes. No more sunroof. Gonna go pro touring with the build. Have already aquired parts for the change over..hint..RMS..6.1.. Need a place of my own so I can focus on working on it. The courts are not making it easy to try & move on with my life. I'm thinking for my next tattoo is to get the VIN # under R.I.P. The table idea came up after I seen how bad the floors are buckled. Physically I'm ok, the mental part still messes with my head & my son hates the guy for what he did to us..

WOW I am totally blown away. After reading your thread about the accident,it is a testament on how well built 70's cars are built. I look forward to following your new build and know it will be as nice as your last one.

You guys that want parts are frigging comical......the guy is talking about putting together another car with parts from the wreck........or maybe you did not bother reading his post......

I was thinking along the same lines today, just decided to zip it, but it needed to be said:thumbrig:

Sorry that I was askin. I figured the worst he could say is no I will be usin it. It dont hurt to ask does it? And I did read his post and feel bad for him I had a tree fall across my foldown backseat sunroof 340 duster. And maybe he is tryin to get the funds by sellin parts to build a new one.

Hi Russel,
It's been awhile, glad to hear from you again.
Always wondered what was going on with you and the red Duster.
I remember you had alot on your plate,so it is nice to finally see you get a chance to build the car.
Still have pics of the day we unloaded that car.
Looking forward to watching the build. Again, great to see your back !!!
John

I will be selling parts to help fund the new car build..possibly the complete rallye dash..and the 340 too..

Hey Johnny, glad to hear from you. The red Duster is still sitting at my moms house waiting for me to get my own place so I can work on it. I've been on here the whole time, just doing a lot of reading & getting ideas from other members builds. I have a vision in my head on what I wanna build..well still trying to decide on rims..lol

Well back in Nov I finished stripping down my Duster down to a shell. Had to use a sawsall in a few spots. Pulled the motor, trans, k-frame & suspension as a single unit. a few weeks later I pulled the rear end out of her. The motor & trans went to a friend of a friend. The front suspension, headers, & dash went to a close friend. The rear end might be for sale because I want to narrow the rear & don't want to cut a A body 8 3/4 to do it. The actual moving day was on Jan 25th...the day I bought her back in '87. Let my kids have some fun with some spray paint. After it was all loaded up we drove by the drunk guys house then around town before taking her to my work where she will be used for any patch panels the new car may need & I have already found a few spots that will be needed. Used the forklift at work with blade extensions to get her where she is now. Really sucks having to do this but it's the only way to move forward with the new build. I will be starting a build thread for the new car shortly.
