I've got a 64 Dart GT with slant - want to drop in a mild v8. How tough is this to accomplish - I know the later 64's were available with a 273.

Motor Mounts? K member?

How about the late 5.2 motors?

Just get those motor mounts from Schumacher Creative Services. I dropped a 360 in mine. The only thing I had trouble with, was the driver side exhaust manifold. You need the one that curves behind the steering rod, the one that goes to the gear box.

FROM SIX CYLINDER SWAP
motor mounts - schumacher or modified ones from a 273 car
throttle cable (one from a v-8 car works well) assembly
Kick down assy or cable
90 deg oil filter adapter (Not required but nice.)
Oil Pan - needs to be center sump with correct pickup tube

water pump..
The timing marks are obscured with the older water pump so an option is to round up the 273 timing cover and timing tab and use older pump & Re-mark TDC on balancer.or swap to newer style and change radiator.
Appropriate V-8 transmission
flywheel or flexplate for external balance
matching torque converter
Matching bracket and pulley setup
kickdown linkage or cable
Notch the crossmember for dual exhaust clearance.
Your biggest challenge will be exhaust. 273 manifolds choke up a 360. Headers are expensive. Not much else fits. Search for discussions......

Very easy swap!

I did my 65 Plymouth Valiant from a /6 to a 273, all easy. The most expensive, hard to find thing is the drop center link. Everything you can get from a parts car, i.e. gas pedal etc.

Not all 64's had the firewall drilled for the V8 gas pedal and throttle cable so you may need to re drill it to fit the V8 pedal assembly. And depending on what shifter you are running you may need to find a V8 cable shift tranny.

Some have installed a 5.2/5.9 Magnum small block. Note that one motor mount on a 360 (5.9L) is different than 273-318-340 engines. As mentioned, you need the (hard to find) V-8 steering center link. It drops ~0.5" more than the slant's, almost imperceptible, but needed. The 273 had a factory dent in the oil pan to clear the center-link, so you may need one of those pans, which won't fit a 360/5.9L since the rear bearing hump is bigger. No need to worry about the water pump blocking your timing marks if you get all accessories with the engine. I am just throwing out things as vague warnings. Many posts, so search and read.
