ok so i looked under the hood today,
Mild 440
its got a torker airgap style intake and a valley pan gasket.
Problem is the valley pan popped up. almost looks like someone when front inside the motor and punched it out...
Runs fine and sounds good but i never noticed it until now.
Anybody have any ideas how the valley pan would pop up like this?
What is the valley pan for anyways? a few people told me it was unneccesary.

I had this same problem on my 383.Ended up being I did not have enough crank case ventalation.I put Mopar Performance valve covers on it and the breathers were not all the way opened up on the bottom.I changed the valley pan took off the air breathers and opened them up more.Check your valve cover breathers and your PCV valve.

yup. Too much pressure in the crankcase. Question is why... Not enough breather or PCV is not usually the case. Poor ring seal usually is.

yah thats it.... pcv valve.
i took another look and there was a hole at the very top of the pcv valve.
I have it set up rite now were its a twist lock breather (cheap one) and out of that is a rubbber gasket and pcv valve adapded on it.... its not homemade or anything but theres a few places it can have a bad seal.
ALso its ran to the carburator out of the pcv valve.
What are the best ways to do it?
I would like to run the crankcase breathers to the headers on a one way valve they are set up with but i heard its only good when your wide open.

Usually, you want the PCV on the opposite side of the engine from the breather. You dont want a hoel on the top of a breather... as you're only sucking in outside air. What I typically do with non factory valve covers is fine a grommet that will fit and that uses a 5/8 hole... Then I use a mid 80s 454 chevy PCV valve in it. The line should go from the carb's base plate to the PCV valve.

yeah,
Rite now its just a breather on one side and a breather with and adapter to a pcv valve on the other side hooked up to carb... but the pcv valve itself had a hole in it.

yup.. and the pcv on top of a breather isnt doing anything at all, except drawing outside air down thru the breather into the carb. You need to get a grommet and lose the breather under it.
